The Things I am Thankful For.......

Thanksgiving is coming up in a few days, it reminds us to be thankful for many things in our life. Here are a list and some pictures of the things I am thankful for:

*  My family: My mom, dad, sisters, my aunts and uncles, of course my Grandma.
*  My friends: Savannah, Rebecca, Wayne, Dylan, Matthew, Debbie.
*  My dog Sheba.
*  My companion worker; Theresa.
*  Going to the YMCA and swimming and exercising.
*  Special Olympics; my team in bocce and bowling.
*  My jobs at Wayne County Recycling Center and Fair Hill Farm Riding Academy.
*  My job coach Michelle and her "drads" LOL!!!
*  HRC and all the people that work there.
*  Helping other people.
*  Going shopping and having fun.
*  Helping Ben bring in the horses and other jobs at the barn.

*  For Art and Ben at Fair Hill Farm.
*  Fair Hill Farm and riding and activities there.
*  My blog to write down my feelings.
*  Bowling.

Working with Philip.....

On Tuesdays I work with a man named Philip, at Fair Hill Farm. I know Philip from HRC (Human Resource Center) so when he started working at Fair Hill I was happy to work with someone that I knew.

My job is to help Philip learn the tasks that need to be done in the barn. I enjoy helping Philip learn these tasks because it helps me to stay on task, it also helps me to feel important because I have been working at Fair Hill longer, I know the job and I am proud that Ben trusts me and believes that I am responsible enough to teach Philip.

I enjoy working with Philip, we get along great and have fun but we also work well together as a team to get the tasks done.

Here is an example of what tasks we do together at the farm:

The first thing we do when Philip gets to the barn is to fill up the water buckets that are in each horse's stall. We have to unhook the hose from the wall and make sure the water is on or off and that water goes in the bucket and not on the horses or yourself! (I did that to myself before)

The next task after we finish filling the water buckets is bringing hay in to each horse in their stalls. It's important the flake not be too big or too small and that it goes all the way in to the stall so it doesn't make a mess.

The most fun part of the morning is making the horse's "cereal" it's not really cereal but a combination of different kinds of oats, grains and vitamins. We measure those out into the feed tubs and then add a little bit of water. While we do this the horses are always talking to us and impatient to get their breakfast.

I really like working with Philip, he's a nice person.

SAVANNAH.....

I have a friend named Savannah, I've known her for 2 years. I met Savannah working at HRC and Fair Hill Farm where we both work and have a session with Ben Goldburg on Fridays. Savannah and I have lots of great times together; we laugh a lot and sometimes we go out to dinner together.

This past Friday, Savannah did something she hasn't done before....SHE GOT ON A HORSE!!

She has been trying to get on a horse for a long time and she just hasn't been able to do it. When I saw Savannah get on the horse I felt happy seeing her accomplish something she hasn't done before. I am very proud of her for doing something she was afraid to do.

Geocaching

I'm going to talk about a new, fun, hobby that my job coach Michelle told me about and got me to try. It's called Geocaching and it is so much fun!

Here is the official definition of Geocaching from Wikipedia: Geocaching /ˈdʒiːoʊˌkæʃɪŋ/ is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiveror mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", anywhere in the world.

A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook (with a pen or pencil). The geocacher enters the date they found it and signs it with their established code name. After signing the log, the cache must be placed back exactly where the person found it. Larger containers such as plastic storage containers (Tupperware or similar) or ammunition boxes can also contain items for trading, usually toys or trinkets of little financial value, although sometimes they are sentimental. Geocaching shares many aspects with benchmarking, trigpointing, orienteering, treasure-hunting, letterboxing, and waymarking.

For my first geocache we used Michelle's phone with a Geocaching app, to get the clues and directions to find the geocache. We drove in the car to the general location (Apple Grove Picnic area in Honesdale) and then we used her phone to navigate North, South, East or West to walk closer to the geocache. We had to hike and look for the treasure using the few clues that the app gave us. Even though there are clues it wasn't easy to find and we had to look around a lot once the app told us that we were within 10 feet of the cache, it was hidden in a tree trunk and not very easy to spot. 

There are many, many geocaches located all over the US and even the World, you can go anywhere and with the Geocaching app on your smartphone, you can go on a treasure hunt anywhere you are! We had a lot of fun and laughs together and enjoyed ourselves very much!

Fair Adventures

It's that time of year again! Time for the Wayne County Fair, it's one of my favorite things to do at the end of the summer. This year the fair started on August 7th and runs until August 15th.

This year I went with my Aunt Patty on Saturday morning and with my mom on Saturday night. My friend Marsha also went with us, she is my friend from Special Olympics. The fair is always busy; there are lots of crowds and people walking around. I enjoy seeing all the people at the fair, I like seeing people talking and having a good time. 

Another great thing about the fair is the food!! There is always a lot of food available at the fair. Some of the tasty things I had this year were; mozzarella sticks with sauce and Pepsi, cheeseburger, fries and a lemonade. The food is very tasty and I really like eating there. 

I also like the animals at the fair, this year I saw the cows, donkeys and rabbits. We went on the opening day this year so not a lot of the animals were there yet.

There are also a lot of games at the fair and his year I won a stuffed animal in the balloon dart game. It seemed  really easy, I had to pop 20 balloons to get the animal, and I did!

If you ever get a chance to come to Honesdale, come to the Wayne County fair, you will have a lot of fun!!

 

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!!

Today is my mom; Jean's birthday. I love my mom because she is such a wonderful, nice person. My mom spends a lot of time taking me to things like my social group that meets every month. She takes me to the Carbondale YMCA to swim nights twice a week and brings me to Fair Hill Farm. She takes me to my Doctor appointments and to any meeting I have to go to. She does all of this and also works a full time job as a nurse in the Hospital.

If you see my mom today, wish her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Love you mom!

Just a Little Thank You......

On Friday May 8, 2015. My sister Kelly, my mom and I, presented a check to Art and Ben Goldberg of Fair Hill Farm, for the amount of $4,800.00 that was raised from "Bowling for Autism"

I felt really happy giving that check to Art and Ben,  I felt like it was my way of saying "Thank you" for all that they have done for me and the other people that come to Fair Hill Farm.
